Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 10, 2026
We collect as little as possible and never sell your data. Here’s exactly what we keep and why.
What we collect
When you sign up, we store your name, email address, and a securely hashed version of your password (we never store your actual password). If you choose to add them, we also store your neighborhood, a short bio, an avatar color, and an approximate location you pin for the map. When you post listings, send messages, leave ratings, or save searches, we store that content so the service works.
What we don’t collect
Because Atlantic Barter Co. is cash-free, we never ask for or store any payment information, card numbers, or bank details. There’s simply no money in the system.
How we use it
Your information is used only to run the service: showing your listings to neighbors, delivering messages and notifications, building your reputation through ratings, and alerting you about saved searches. If you enable email notifications, we use your email address to send you those alerts and password-reset links.
What others can see
Your name, neighborhood, bio, avatar, ratings, and active listings are visible to other members. Your email address and password are never shown publicly. The map shows the approximate locations you choose to pin on listings — you control whether to add them.
Sharing
We don’t sell or rent your personal data. We don’t show ads. We only share data with the service providers needed to run the platform (for example, the email provider that delivers notifications), and only as much as needed to do that job.
Cookies
We use a single essential cookie to keep you logged in. We don’t use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Your choices
You can edit your profile information at any time in your settings, and you can delete your listings whenever you like. If you’d like your account and associated data removed, contact the Atlantic Barter Co. team.
Children
Atlantic Barter Co. is not intended for anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If we update this policy, we’ll post the new version here with a fresh date.
Note: This is a plain-language starting template, not legal advice. Privacy rules vary by location (for example GDPR or CCPA may apply to you), so consider having it reviewed before scaling up.
